Ramtech’s slab-on-grade system used 14’x60’ steel-framed modules for the Type II structure, enabling a flexible floor plan for 14 offices, open workspaces, breakrooms, and restrooms. Wilson & Company designed the civil, electrical, and mechanical systems while Thornton-Tomasetti handled the concrete foundation and site elements. The exterior featured horizontal steel siding and SBS roofing to provide an industrial aesthetic. DOE sustainability standards were met with a high-efficiency HVAC system. The offsite construction cut the build time in half, saving costs in the remote Los Alamos area despite strict security needs.

The materials used were specified to utilize sustainable construction methods. The exterior finishes combine a durable hi-rib horizontal metal panels with an EIFS stucco texture to accent the buildings geometry and blend in with the adjacent structures. The floor plan included 67 personal business offices in three sizes, along with an open office plan on both floors that can accommodate 12 freestanding spaces using custom furniture cubicles. The turnkey Multi-Use Office Building (MUOB) project required Ramtech to perform the site work including the extension and connection of utilities on the building site.

As part of the Army’s Modularity Realignment program, the project is part of a $6B overall expansion project at Fort Bliss, and is one of six projects that Ramtech has participated in at the base. Designated to meet LEED Silver, Ramtech utilized its Accelerated Building System to meet the project requirements. The building is set on a six inch 4,000 psi concrete slab, and features a 100% brick masonry exterior and over 40 miles of comm/data wiring. The building features classrooms, private offices, conference rooms, and restrooms with shower facilities.

Meeting Leed Silver Certification requirements, the facility serves as the headquarters building for the Army’s 93rd Military Police Unit located at the UOF section of the base.

The ground floor incorporates three training classrooms, with the upper floor providing space for 14 private offices and three cubicle office areas. The building also features three conference rooms, two communication rooms, and a SIPRNET room. The building was designed to blend in with the existing architecture of the base by using a brick and EIFS exterior with a standing seam metal roof.

Bliss, Texas. Originally started in April 2007 task orders 001-002-003 included requirements for Company Operation Facilities for the US Army Milcon expansion at Fort Bliss, Texas, three task orders were issued totaling $32 million. The projects requirement for multiple permanent buildings in a compressed construction timeframe was an ideal application for Ramtech’s Accelerated Building System.

The building replaced the original base datacenter and includes five offices, server room, network operations center, and electrical and mechanical rooms. The server room has raised flooring and accommodates 79 liquid cooled servers. The building has a painted concrete masonry exterior without windows in order to meet the Mission Critical Security requirements as the nerve center of the base. All of the construction took place under heightened security that minimized any disruptions or shutdowns of DOIM’s 24/7 operations.
